What can I expect from my first session?
During our first appointment together:
- We will understand your reasons for psychotherapy or teletherapy and online counseling and I will describe the psychotherapy process.
- You will understand better my style and approach to therapy.
- Complete and review any paperwork.
- Ask any questions you may have about the process and my experience.
- Discuss finding a mutually convenient day and time to set up a schedule.
How long does therapy take?
It depends on what you may be seeking. Hope and a sense of a relief is usually immediate after the first appointment. Some clients come in for a very specific issue or issues. Others may be facing a larger life transition and desire more time to process, gain clarity, and feel healthier. For some, they view therapy as part of their overall self-care. We work at a pace that honors the process and your comfort level.
What is your fee?
My current rates for sessions are as follows:
- Individual 45-minute sessions: $275
- Couples one hour sessions: $375
- Families one hour sessions: $375
- Collaborative Divorce & Parenting Coordination one hour sessions: $400
I also offer different collaborative divorce and Parenting Coordination packages and can review them with you
Sessions that run longer than 45 minutes are charged for additional time pro-rata.
Do you offer Online Therapy or Mobile Therapy at my home, office or alternative location?
I offer online therapy through a secure HIPPA compliant software. I also offer mobile therapy depending on your location and on a request basis. Additional modes of therapy include “Therapy in the Park” or “Therapy Coffee Chat” at your favorite cafe.
Do you accept Insurance?
For insurance to be used, the treatment must be “medically necessary” and requires a diagnosis. This means that someone must diagnose you with a mental health disorder and prove that it is having an impact on your health. Many relationship problems or reasons for therapy are not mental health disorders. It also requires disclosures of what I believe should be confidential, as well as limits treatment sessions based on what the insurance company thinks is necessary.
Based on these attributes, I decided accepting in network insurance may not always be in the best interest for my client and the therapy. If you have additional questions, we can speak about this during your phone consult.
Do you accept Sliding-Scale Patients?
Do you have a cancellation policy?
Do you offer Pet Therapy?
My practice does offer pet therapy on a request basis as part of the New Jersey and New York City Therapy Services. I can incorporate a therapy pet into our treatment plan as a one time visit or ongoing basis depending on each unique situation. Please contact me for details on how to include one of our volunteer comforting dogs into your session.
